Here are a few tried and true tips for gift giving that work for nearly anyone who's hard to buy for or who seems to already have everything.

Food, calendars, stationery, or tickets to an event are all things that get used for a limited time. Even if your recipient can afford these things, they will eat a delicious edible gift, use a calendar or day planner, note cards or letter writing paper and they'll love attending a favorite concert, play or game for their team.

If you buy a gift each year for this person, start building a theme - give them something that pertains to the theme every year. It could be an ornament, a cookbook, a gift certificate to a favorite store or charity, or something to add to a cherished collection.

My grandmother loved Hummels, and she brought her collection from Germany when she immigrated.

After my grandmother retired she couldn't afford to buy more of her beloved Hummels, so each year my mother would give her one special figurine to add to her collection. Now that Nana's gone, Mom has the Hummel collection, and I have many memories from childhood of admiring them displayed lovingly on her living room shelves.

Gift cards and Gift certificates are always welcomed. The hardest part is choosing the right store ... but if you know your recipient well enough to buy personalized gift certificates, you can find a welcome and wonderful gift for them in their home town or online.

Gift baskets with a theme have always been one of my favorites to give, and to receive. Cater to a food love or activity you know the person enjoys, then build a gift package around that passion.

Choose a container that goes with the items you're giving, then wrap it up in clear cellophane tied with a cheerful bow at the top.

Home Made Mixes you whip up in your kitchen are a fun way to give cookies, cakes, beverages and spice mixes as a gift. Mix all the dry ingredients together, put them into an attractive glass container with a good seal, and attach a recipe for making one or more servings to the container.

I like to use a a hang tag tied around the top or a label glued to the side of the jar, decorated with appropriate clip art and lettering.
